Roadmap

 Unexpected result of my work on Storyline module in Book Writing Tool (BWT) application was an easy and flexible solution for defining and presenting an roadmap of the application.

The result is shown on the image and can be seen on this link.

The core benefit of roadmap is to visualize your business strategy, making it easier to communicate with all customers and public.

For implementation an open source d3 based organization chart library is used. It displays an hierarchical data structure from storyline book module of BWT project

Roadmap is a strategic planning approach that helps visualize what you want to accomplish and when. Use it to define the actions and resources required to transform your vision into reality. I came up with this solution naturally while working on storyline module implementation of BWT project. It became very effective instantly due to simple and fast editing solution, order, flexibility. The visualization is not perfect but still helpful.

The time spend for editing an application roadmap is so little that I started creating a roadmaps for all my projects. An additional functionality for publishing an storyline is in process of developing. I hope soon user will be able not only to create there own roadmaps, but to publish them for public access and refer a page on BWT for roadmap visualization.

Here are some steps for project roadmap definitions

1. Create BWT account if you do not have existing. The project is open source and free for access. No personal information is collected
2. Create a Book object as example Project Roadmaps and select it
3. Create Chapter: as example Project One and select Edit
   • Right part of the text editor is storyline list that is referred to this chapter
   • Additional you can edit storylines in storyline editor page. You can go to this page by using Book hamburger menu on top banner

I hope that the functionality for publishing your own roadmap will be available in 3-4 weeks from now.

The Book Writing Tool (BWT) is a Web Application intended to help any author in writing process. It is a free online available for everybody who likes to write. No one writing tool is going to do everything for you, so you’ll likely be relying on a couple of writing tools.  The Book Writing Tool (BWT) focus on keeping your scripts in some semblance of order.

The application can be used as online diary that will keep your thoughts safe, a reflective journal where you can pour your emotions and record life events or maybe even an infinite digital parchment for that novel.
